The loft was empty, the only light source being the sun's rays streaming in through the giant windows. A very bored Mimi shuffles from the kitchen over to the window bench and stretches herself out like a cat, laying on it face down. Her stomach is pressed against the cold wood as she adjusts the waistband of her short white shorts. Thigh-high teal and black striped socks cover her legs, one which dangles off the bench along with her right arm. She's wearing an old black tanktop, but only one strap shows, where Roger's sweater hangs off her tanned shoulder. A coughing fit seizes her and she clamps a hand over her mouth, coughing into the oversized sleeve covering it.
After merely minutes of laying there, the restless girl pushes herself up and over to the tattered couch. Mimi sniffles and flops down on the couch, curling up and closing her eyes. "Where the hell is Roger? And Mark and..." Her own exhaustion cuts her off as she falls asleep.

Joanne shifted the basket of muffins under her arm as she opened the door to the apartment building. It had been a gift from a person that she had won a case for and she really didn't have any need of a basket of muffins so she thought she would share the wealth. Who better to give it to then her friends.
She knocked on the door of Roger and Mark's apartment waiting for a moment and not getting an answer. Figuring they weren't home she sighed wondering if she should just leave the basket by the door. Looking around she shifted the basket again before knocking on the door a little louder this time. Perhaps one of them was asleep or something.

Roger walked back from the drug store, tightly clutching his and Mimi's bottles of AZT in the white paper bag. Everytime he went through another one of those transparent-orange bottles of pills he felt like it was another day off his life. There was only so much those pills could do before his body would shut down on him and AIDS would take it over. Shaking off the morbid thoughts he hurried down the sidewalk and into the building, hurrying up the stairs to the loft. Noticing Joanne at the door he raised an eyebrow, walking up beside her.
"Joanne..and..muffins." Smiling he reached for the key in his pocket while looking over at Joanne. "You been waiting long? Mimi must be sleeping..", he muttered. He could only hope she was sleeping. He couldn't help the thoughts that crept up everytime he left Mimi alone. He could only hope she had given the drugs up for good now.
"So, did you make those? I hope Maureen didn't, I wouldn't put anything into my mouth that she 'cooked' ". Grinning as he unlocked the door and slid it open his face fell when he saw Mimi laying still by the window. The muffins forgotten he dropped the bag of their pills onto the couch as he moved towards Mimi. "Mimi, you okay?", he asked, pressing a cold hand to her shoulder, shaking her awake. Calm down, Rog. She's not dead..just sleeping.

Upon feeling a freezing hand on her warm skin, Mimi woke up, wondering if it was really cold or if she just had a fever."Hmm?" A small whimper came from the dancer's lips as she rolled onto her back, her dark eyes meeting Roger's bright green. "Baby you're home! she said sleepily and wrapped her arms around his neck, resting her head on his shoulder. Now sitting upright, she could see Joanne and the basket of muffins. "Hi Jo! Please tell me you came to feed me" Mimi giggled and proceeded to place several tiny kisses on Roger's cheek, never releasing his neck. "Where did you go? I was bored and you left me all alone." When Mimi's sick, she tends to act like a little girl.

Nodding at Roger as he opened the door Joanne smiled slightly, "No, not to long. I was going to just leave these here for you to find but wasn't sure if I should or not. And no, neither I nor Maureen made them." She laughed and shook her head trying to think of what Maureens cooking would be like. "They were a gift to me. I have no need for a whole basket of muffins so here I am spreading the wealth."
She shrugged and fallowed Roger into the apartment seeing him panic slightly at the sight of Mimi apparently sleeping. She picked up the bag he dropped and set them aswell as the basket on the table looking back at him and Mimi. She nodded as Mimi spoke and smiled kindly at her. "Hey Mimi. And yes, of course I came to feed everyone. These are for you aswell as Roger, and Mark, and whoever else wants them." She sat down at the table and began unwrapping the plastic from the basket to destribute the muffins.

Relieved, he smiled and leaned down as Mimi wrapped her arms around his neck. "Hey babe..", he murmured. "I picked up our AZT." Reaching up he gently untangled Mimi's arms from around his neck, placing a soft kiss to her cheek before he walked over to the bag and grabbed her bottle, taking out a pill for her. Getting her a glass of water he handed both to her. "Here, take that."
Turning to Joanne he gave her a friendly smile. "You're sure they're not poisoned? You're a lawyer, you've got to have a lot of enemies.", he joked. Walking over to the basket he grabbed a muffin and took a generous bite. "Thanks Jo.", he spoke with his mouth full, grinning at her. Walking over to Mimi he handed her the muffin he had taken a bite out of. "Chocolate chip, your favorite." He'd be able to relax once she had taken her med's and gotten something to eat.

"Gracias" she said, getting up to greet Joanne with a kiss to her cheek. She turned in the other direction to cough into her fist, then stood up straight again, accepting the pill and water from her boyfriend. Mimi wrinkled her nose but placed the pill on her tongue and washed it down with a gulp of lukewarm water.
Smiling, she took a bite out of the muffin Roger handed her and looked to Joanne."These are awesome!" she said, taking another small bite. The girl hadn't eaten much in the past two days due to being sick, but couldn't say no to her favorite kind of muffin. Eyeing Roger, she realized he shouldn't be so close to her."Rog, you're going to get sick if you keep hangin' around me." Granted, Mimi didn't want to be away from him, but they couldn't risk him getting sick too.

Raising an eyebrow at Roger, Joanne shrugged, "Well, I hope they aren't poisoned." She said as he took a bite, then smiled at him, "Besides I'm one of those good kinds of lawyers. You know me, Roger. How sleezy do you really think I could get?" Taking a muffin for herself she started picking at it before putting a piece she had broken off into her mouth.
"You're both very welcome." She said sencerly nodding at the couple then added mostly to herself "I should probably write the person a thank you letter..." She watched Mimi and Roger for a moment before smiling to herself and reaching into the basket pulling out a blueberry muffin to save for Maureen to give to her when they met up later.

He furrowed his brow in concern as he watched Mimi go into another coughing fit. She had been been sick for the last couple of days and it only looked like it was getting worse. They didn't have the money to have her see a doctor. But, she also didn't have a strong immune system to fight off whatever she was getting. Shaking his head he fought the urge to feel her forehead, knowing he was already acting enough like her mother. "Mimi, I'm already sick." He was HIV positive, it was useless to act like he wasn't going to die eventually.
Turning to Joanne again he grabbed a corn muffin from the basket. He wasn't really hungry, but, Joanne had been kind enough to bring them over for them. "I never got that. Writing thank-you letters for gifts, I mean. There's a reason they're giving you the gift, as a thank-you. And then you thank them for thanking you?", he grinned at his logic, shrugging.

"I know, we both are, but a bad cold doesn't exactly go well with our HIV" she said, wiping her nose with her sleeve. Picking out a chocolate chip from the muffin, she popped it in her mouth and let it melt on her tongue. Mimi waved Joanne over and sat on the couch with her legs tucked under her. "Feel my forehead. Is it warm?" The girl was determined to keep Roger as far from her germs as possible, even if it hurt to push him away.
With the glass of water wedged between her thighs, Mimi awaited Joanne's diagnosis while silently picking at the chocolate chips and staring at Roger.

Joanne blinked at Roger and stayed silent for a moment, "Well, if someone is appreciative enough to thank me by giving me a muffin basket it's just to thank them for their appreciation I guess." She shrugged then looked over at Mimi and went to sit down next to her on the couch.
She pressed the back of her hand to her forehead for a moment then let it drop back into her lap. "You're a little warm. But feeling someones forehead really never is the most reliable way of seeing if someone has a temperature." She said looking from Mimi over to Roger. "I mean it would probably be best for a doctor to say... Or to use a thermometer. You don't happen to have a one do you?"

Shaking her head, Mimi fell against the armrest of the couch and crossed her legs Indian style, setting the water down on the floor. "No, no doctors thanks." No matter how sick she was, Mimi hated doctors, clinics, hospitals and anything having to do with them. "I don't have a thermometer, but knowing Mark's mom, there's probably one around here somewhere" she said, giggling at the thought of Mark's mother mailing him a thermometer along with leaving a lengthy voicemail about staying healthy.
She took one last bite of her muffin, then held out what was left at arm's length to Roger.

"Yeah, we don't really have the money to see a doctor..", he commented, eyeing Mimi as she tried to hand him the rest of the muffin. "You haven't eaten much lately, just finish that muffin for me, okay?" Thinking over Joanne's diagnosis he nodded, walking over to the bathroom. Digging around he finally found a thermometer in a bottom shelf. Walking back out into the living room he smiled at the two. "Yep, still in the box and everything. Sounds like a gift from Mark's mom." Pulling the thermometer from the box he held it out towards Mimi's mouth. "Open up."

Mimi's heart melted a little as Roger asked her to eat for him. When he brought her the thermometer, she opened her mouth and handed him the muffin. Can't eat with this thing in my mouth. The metal tip felt strange under her tongue, but she held it there anyway, knowing Joanne wouldn't let her off the hook too easily. Turning away from her boyfriend a little, Mimi attempted to keep her germs away from him. Now with the thermometer in her mouth, she sat silently picking at loose strings on the couch.

Nodding slowly, Joanne figured that Mimi probably wouldn't want to go see a doctor as well as the fact that they probably didn't have the money for that. She smiled kindly as Mimi put the thermometer in her mouth she reached over and rubbed her shoulder. Watching her watch for when to take it out of her mouth. When a minute was up she pulled the thermometer out of her mouth and looked down at it.
"You have a bit of a fever." She said slowly looking fromt he numbers on the thermometer up to Mimi. "101.4..." She glanced over at Roger for a moment then looked back at Mimi. "I know that law school probably isn't grounds for me to tell you what to do and everything but whenever someone has the flu or something, which you probably have, it's best if you drink lot's of liquids. Like water, juice, things like that." She smiled faintly at Mimi, "And listen to Roger and eat. It can only help." She looked back down at the thermometer clearing it off before she looked back up at Mimi and Roger.
