While in class Collins made an interesting discovery. The soles of his shoes were coming off. Well that wasn't exactly accurate, the duct tape that was holding the soles on his shoes broke. He loved his boots. There were comfortable and so broken in. Some would say too broken in. He knew Angel would say they were too broken in. So he recluctantly decided to skip the Stoli in the name of new boots.
Collins entered the shoe store and sighed. Couldn't he just get the same one he got...about seven years ago?

Striding down the sidewalk, Joanne looking through the windows of a store or two as she passed them not with much interest. She wasn't to much into shoping unless it was something that she needed to get, or a special occasion. She slowed down as she watched a fermillior man enter a store a few yards a head of her. She smiled to herself and walked to the store entering after him.
Looking around at the many pairs of shoes she suspected that after all this time he must have been bothered enough to buy new ones. Joanne caught up to him and put her hand on his shoulder, "Hey Collins." She said looking around the shoe store before looking back at him smiling faintly.

Collins turned around a deep smile on his face. He coudl recognize his friend's voices anywhere, "Hey there sweet thing. How's my girl?" He asked pulling her into one of his bear hugs whether she liked it or not. Collins was never very uncomfortable about displays of public affection. Innocent or not. Which was one of the reasons his police record was so...colorful.
"What you doing in a place like this?" Collins asked her, "You here to liberate me?" Looking around the shoe store he nodded, "I'm lost and confused in a valley of shoes..." He paused, "I kinda sounded like Dr. Seuss there didn't I?"

Joanne smiled back at Collins as he hugged her and she patted his back. "I'm doing pretty good." She said as she pulled away from him and shaking her head slightly. "What about you? You look very lost indeed." She laughed at the Dr. Seuss comment, "I'm sure it happens to the best of us..."
Shaking her head Joanne held up her hand palm side up revealing a tear in her glove, "I've got to get new ones. It got caught on some of Maureens equipment she had laying around the house." Shrugging she looked around the shoe store. "But I saw you and was wondering what brought you into a place like this. Was Angel able to convince you it was time to buy new boots?" She asked looking down at his shoes then back up to him.

"I'm...I just want these boots that I've had for the past...six years." Collins explained in a light sigh, "But it doesn't really seem like the shoe indistry is that nice and simple." He scanned through the shoes and shook his head. There didn't even seem to be a pair of boots in sight.
Collins smirked, "Ah Mo. I miss her 'organization' skills. My shins are thankful for the lacks on bruises though. Ice works well on them." Living with Maureen was always an adventure. Hell, being around Maureen was always an adventure. But Joanne was up for the job, which made Collins love the girl even more.
"Uh well kinda. She's been on me about these...but I like them so much. But then the duct tape broke so I figured I better buy some before she starts on me again." Collins said with a shrug.
He wrapped his arm around her shoulder, "Would you honor me by helping me find decent shoes?"

Looking around the store as he talked Joanne nodded, "Well, if you haven't bought a pair of shoes in 6 years things are bound to seem different." She said looking at him, "But don't worry, there has to be something you like."
She let out a laugh and shook her head. "I try to help her out with that organization thing but I miss things sometimes." Joanne said and shrugged. For some reason she wasn't even really able to picture Maureen organizing her things. At least in a traditional way. "And I'll remember about the ice for next time..." She added and smiled over at Collins.
"Yes," She said slowly and shrugged with mock hopelessness. "Well, I hope she realizes that not everyone can have as great of fashion since as she does."
"And I would be delighted to help you." Joanne said reaching up and patting his back. "I'm sure there have to be boots around here somewhere. It's almost near that time of year where it's going to snow. And people have to be prepared." She nodded a matter of factly and smiled.

Collins snorted at the mention of Angel's fashion sense, "I know. She's actually made me clean my clothes more often. I prefer the smell of pot to remain on my clothes...she don't mind it but..." He shrugged knowing that not everyone loved the smell of pot smoke like he did. "Plus...I don't think Angel wants to bail me out of jail....much." If they were going to stay together, she'd have to get used to the idea.
"Why thank you my dear." Collins said with some type of uppidty accent, "So...guide away. Wait..." He pointed to the signs hanging to the ceiling, "I can do this. Mens to the right. See? I'm doing so well already!" He chuckled at his pathetic shopping skills.

"Well," Joanne said shrugging, "It's nice to have clean clothes once in a while." She smiled to herself and shook her head. "I mean, some people might even say that Angel is a good influance on you. And besides it's good that you don't get thrown in jail so much. because one of these days Angel may not have the money. And then what? You'd need a lawyer." She paused and looked at Collins for a moment seriously before she broke out into a smile.
Turning her head up to look at the signs, Joanne nodded, "I think you are quite right." She smiled and lead him over to the mens section. "You hardly even need me here. So, do you see anything you like?" She added scanning the shelves of shoes.

"Well ain't I so lucky that I gotta friend who does that lawyery things for a profession. Comes in handy." Collins said nudging her gently with a wide smile. Of course if anything ever did come up he wouldn't expect Joanne to help. He knew quite well that when it came to his legal history...things were difficult. When Collins was younger he was sure that he would spend some times in jail along the way. But like Joanne said, Angel had been a good influence. He only got arrested once while they were together.
Collins took Joanne's sleeve. "No I still need you...I'm...I don't see my size. Wait that's an ugly shoe." He moved on pulling Joanne with him a look of confusion plastered on his face.

Joanne nodded, "You are very lucky Collins." She said laughing to herself shaking her head. She'd said it before when she was asked. She'd do whatever she could to help her friends out and it did seem like things came up where a lawyer was needed. She was more then happy to help them out.
Smiling at Collins as he took her sleeve, Joanne looking around, "I'm sure if you ask someone they have your size in the back. Or can have it ordered for you if need be." She looked around for shoes she thought he might like. "So like what about those kinds of boots?" She asked pointing out some brown work boots pulling one off the shelf and holding it out to Collins.

"I know. Gotta count my blessings and all of that good stuff." Collins said winking at her. He really was blessed...sure that whole HIV thing...but still he was very lucky. He was even better off now than he was before he was infected. It was odd how the world worked like that.
"Order them?" Collins asked. This all seemed too complicated to him. Couldn't they just have his size. "They're ok...do they have 13's?" He asked cursing his shoe size. "I should figure out how to shrink my feet one of these days."

"Yes," Joanne nodded looking at the size of the boot then putting it back. "It's always good to go through all the things you should be thankful for. In fact I'm pretty sure there is a whole holiday that people do that." She said off-handedly looking around for a bigger size.
"There are 12's." She frowned moving down the row. "And yes order them. It would probably only take about a few days to have them shipped in. That is if they don't have them in stock in the back room" She said looking back at Collins. "They probably do though. If they have 12's I'm sure that they should have 13's. It's only one size bigger." She moved farther down the row and smiled slightly. "Well there is always feet binding." She said joking with him. "But I'm pretty sure that isn't something you'd like doing. It doesn't sound to comfortable."

"Isn't that convient. Our forefatheres were quite the smarties...or at least...the men who owned my forefathers," Collins said with a slight chuckle.
Collins sighed and looked around for a sales person. There was only one who was sitting on the counter and playing with her gum while finishing a crossword puzzle. "Yeah I think feet binding might be my next choice. Then I'll be a 12 instead of a 13...still kind of annoying." Collins moved on not willling to sit still. He found a pair of black and white dress shoes, he laughed showing them to Joanne. "Never knew they had shoes for penguins...and look. 13's. What is the world trying to tell me?"

Joanne laughed quietly and shook her head shrugging. "Behind every great man is anouther great man I guess." She said nudging Collins lightly in the ribs snickering to herself.
She eyed the shoes for a moment slowly smiling. "I think the world is trying to tell you that you should ware a tux more often." She shrugged. "Aw, I'd like to see that. I think you'd look good in a tux." She shook her head and looked around the shelves again. "I would tell you to geth those but I don't know how practical they would be for walking around in. Probably only slightly more comfortable then the foot binding idea." She added and smirked lightly.

"Probably." Collins grinned as they continued on their way.
"A tux?" Collins dropped the shoe as if it was suddenly toxic. "No offense girl but...no thanks. I haven't been in a tux since that damn society dance. When I came out...that wasn't a fun experience." He whinced at the thought of it. Sure it seemed like a good idea at the time. Give the stuck up community the finger and come out to his parents with his boyfriend on his arm. Except the backlash was a bit more than he could handle.
